General Information

Quito, the capital of Ecuador, is nestled in a long, narrow valley between the lush base of Pichincha, an active volcano, and the steep canyon of the river Machángara. Quito enjoys an unmatched natural setting which is complimented by its classic architecture and modern structures, producing South America's most beautiful capital city.

Quito is the perfect place to begin exploring Ecuador. Modern Quito is a city of two halves, Old and New. You can see the historic sites of Quito’s old city and its dozens of museums; visit its hundreds of shops, cafes, and restaurants; and take advantage of the plethora of excursions, hikes and climbs in the surrounding area. You can also enjoy the hustle and bustle of city life in Quito’s new city. Although Quito lies only 13 km south of the equator, Ecuador's capital enjoys mild days and cool nights almost year-round. The climate is divided into two seasons, wet and dry.
