Information
Beijing Study Center
The Beijing program is offered through the
Beijing Center for Chinese Studies (TBC), which is made
up of a consortium of Jesuit Colleges and Universities. The
center is housed at the University of International Business
& Economics, close to many of the main attractions.
The program offers morning
language classes with afternoon and evening seminars in
English. You can take introductory business courses as well
as courses covering the Chinese culture, ranging from
Chinese Religion to the Martial Arts.
Chinese language courses
are available and range from beginner to advanced. The
courses consist of 10 hours of class time, class sizes
ranging from 3 to 12 students, and 2 hours of language labs
per week. Also, students are assigned a Chinese university
student as a private tutor to help prepare for class and
assignments.

Housing
Students are housed in the
International Student Residence on UIBE’s campus. This is a six
story residence hall where students are assigned living quarters
on floors 2-6. Standard rooms are double occupancy.
Each student room is furnished
with the following: beds with pillows, sheets, towels, blankets
and comforters (students exchange linens twice a month) desks
with lamps and chairs, and one bookcase per student. In addition
each room has one night table, one small table with two chairs,
one phone, one hot water thermos, two built-in closets and one
rented refrigerator. Each room is heated in the winter and
air-conditioned in the summer. Each room has a private bath with
toilet (western), sink and shower. Hot water is provided daily
between the hours of 6:00 - 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 – 11:00 p.m. The
Assistant to the Director of Student Development and two
Residence Assistants live in the International dormitory.
Roommates are assigned by TBC
or students may request a specific roommate. Rooms and roommates
may be switched only after seeing the Director of Student
Development.
Program Fees
The total cost of the program fees, including tuition, room
(no meals) and some excursions is $18,000 per semester for the 2008-2009 academic year.
All SLU financial aid and scholarships, with the exception
of those geared specifically towards housing, will go with the
student. In addition, a mandatory $250 international
insurance fee per semester will be added to the student's
account.

Requirements
In order to obtain admission, which is not guaranteed, a student
must meet the following requirement(s):
- 2.8 GPA
- Not be in academic or
disciplinary probation
